Moldovan citizens working in France likely to have state's pension

Chisinau, 18 August /MOLDPRES/- Citizens of the Republic of Moldova who carry out or have carried out a work activity in France, upon reaching the retirement age, could benefit from the right to pensions and social benefits. The initiative to conclude an agreement in the field between the two states belongs to the Moldovan side and is conditioned by a significant number of citizens working in France.

The Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Policy and European Integration at today's meeting approved initiating negotiations on draft Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the French Republic in social security.

The draft Agreement shall apply to persons who are or have been subject to the legislation of one or both Contracting States (employees, self-employed persons, posted workers, staff of international transport undertakings, staff of diplomatic missions and consular posts, etc.).

The document also provides for granting of old-age pensions, disability pensions caused by general illnesses, pensions and disability benefits due to accidents at work or caused by occupational diseases, survivor's pensions. According to the proportional principle of calculation of pensions, each state will pay the pension calculated in proportion to the insurance period completed on its territory.

According to the draft, the Agreement is concluded for an indefinite period.

The Republic of Moldova has so far signed 14 agreements in social security with states such as Romania, Portugal, Bulgaria, Luxembourg, Austria, Estonia, Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Belgium, Lithuania, Germany, Turkey, the Republic of Belarus.
