Digital development's priorities discussed at Moldova's Economics Ministry

Chisinau, 19 August /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister for Digitalization Iurie Turcanu and Economics Minister Sergiu Gaibu on 18 August held a working meeting with representatives of the National Association of Companies in the Information Technologies Sector (ATIC). The participants in the event tackled more subjects on the agenda of digital transformation of the public sector and the national economy, as well as the development of the Information Technologies and Communications (TIC) sector in Moldova.    

Sergiu Gaibu informed about the institutional structure of the new government in the IT field and pointed out some of the principal subjects on the ministry’s agenda, among which the promotion of the a draft law for the amendment of normative acts, the Package I on Digitalization; a draft government decision concerning adjustings in regulations on the work of the Moldova IT Park. The minister also referred to the need to develop educational programmes, with including the digitalization component, for the concerned specialists of the university education.   

In the context, Deputy PM Iurie Turcanu said that the government had raised the digitalization to the level of national priority. He noted that the government’s action programme in the digitalization sector included conceptual things meant to change, in some cases, radically the way of interaction between the state, citizens and the business environment. In this respect, the contribution and support of the business community in the promotion of these changes are quite important, including through partnerships for the creation of digital solutions and enhancing their consumption capacities.  

In the same context, ATIC representatives said that the organization of the first meeting in such a short period after the swearing in office of the new cabinet was an important signal of the attitude of the current governmental team towards the IT sector and the digitalization. At the same time, they referred to a string of concerns in the IT sector, among which the importance of the approval of the draft law, Package I Digitalization; promoting amendments to the regulations on the work of the Moldova IT Park, in order to provide mechanisms of digital interaction between the park’s management and the residents; enhancing the knowledge and expertise in innovating fields, such as cyber security, artificial intelligence, etc.; enhancing the state’s capacity of absorbing the services supplied by IT companies, as well as creating new specializations, which will provide both the consolidation of expertise and increasing the capacity of execution and consultancy in the sector.    

The National Association of Companies in the Information Technologies Sector brings together companies from the Information Technologies and Communications sector and its goal is to strengthen the competitiveness of the TIC industry in Moldova and promote it as key factor of the country’s economic growth and sustainable development.
