Moldovan government to start negotiations on construction, consolidation of three bridges at borders with Romania, Ukraine

Chisinau, 19 August /MOLDPRES/ - The cabinet of ministers today approved the starting of negotiations on an agreement between the governments of Moldova and Romania on the construction of a road bridge at the border between the two states across the Prut river, between the settlements Ungheni (Moldova) and Ungheni (Romania), the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The goal of the draft is to integrate the road network of Moldova into the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) – an objective stipulated in the Strategy of Transports and Logistics for 2013-2022. Therefore, the government of Romania will provide financing for the technical project of the object, including the environmental impact, as well as the construction of the bridge and the related infrastructure on its territory. On the other hand, Moldova’s cabinet will ensure the assessment of the environmental impact and the financing for the construction of the related road infrastructure on its territory. The term of carrying out of this object is estimated at 3 years.
The Chisinau and Bucharest governments will start negotiations also on the draft agreement on the restoration of the road bridge at the border across the Prut river, Giurgiulesti-Galati. The bridge will provide the interconnection of the road infrastructure between the neighbour countries on the segment of roads: on the territory of Moldova – the M3 national road Chisinau-Comrat-Giurgiulesti-Border with Romania and including on the territory of Romania. The object’s rehabilitation works will be financed from Romania’s state budget and the term of carrying out the works is of 2 years.
Also, the government of Moldova will start talks on a draft agreement with the government of Ukraine on the construction of a cross-border road bridge across the Dniester river, at the Moldovan-Ukrainian state border, in the region of the settlements Cosauti- (Soroca) – Yampil (Ukraine). The construction of the bridge will ensure the connection of the network of roads through the eastern part of Moldova to the network of roads of international movement. The costs of the works are to be covered by the Ukrainian side. The term of carrying out the construction works is to be of 2 years after the starting of the works.
