Foreign Affairs Ministry continues efforts for evacuation of Moldovans from Afghanistan

Chisinau, 20 August /MOLDPRES/ - The Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry (MAEIE) continues diplomatic efforts for the evacuation of the Moldovan citizens from Afghanistan, contracted by the United Nations, with the help of a military transport airship of the Romanian Air Forces, the MAEIE press service has reported.

MAEIE decision-makers are in permanent touch with representatives of Romania’s Foreign Affairs Ministry for coordination the actions needed.

Because of the particularly difficult and dangerous security conditions in Kabul, the citizens’ access to the airport could not be achieved so far. The Romanian side informed that the aircraft of the Romanian Air Forces would stand in Islamabad, Pakistan, being prepared to repeatedly fly to Kabul, in order to evacuate the citizens, including the ones from Moldova, when the transit to the airport is possible.

The Moldovan citizens are in a safe location. MAEIE permanently assess the evolution of the situation in Afghanistan, along with international partners.
