Chisinau, 24 August /MOLDPRES/ - The MPs today voted for the draft law on the amendment of the Law on Prosecutor’s Office in the final reading. The document provides for the establishment of a mechanism of assessment of the performances of the Prosecutor General.
Under the assessment procedure, the Superior Council of Prosecutors (CSP) considers the report of the commission for assessing the performances of the Prosecutor General. After the examination, CSP adopts a decision on the giving of one of the following marks: ‘’excellent’’, ‘’good,’’ ‘unsatisfactory.
If the decision on giving the ‘unsatisfactory’’ mark is adopted, the Superior Council of Prosecutors proposes the dismissal from office of the Prosecutor’s General to Moldova’s president.
The evaluation of the Prosecutor General’s performances will be made by a special commission, based on a regulation. This procedure could not take place more often than once per year.
Amendments regarding the interim duties of the Prosecutor General’s office were accepted in the second reading. The new version is necessary, in order to clear up the situation as to the establishment of the interim duties. The acting Prosecutor General is to be appointed under decree by the Moldovan president, at a proposal by the Superior Council of Prosecutors, the amendment’s authors said.
The law will enter into force on the date of its publication in Moldova’s Official Journal (Monitorul Oficial).
