Moldovan PM participates in inauguration of unit of rescuers, firemen from Anenii Noi

Chisinau, 25 August /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita today participated in the inauguration of the Unit of Rescuers and Firemen from the eastern Anenii Noi town. The station was constructed from the scratch, with financial support on behalf of the USA and contribution from the central and local budgets, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.  

The unit is endowed with boxes for the preservation of technology for intervention and special vehicles, a box for repair and washing the technology, rooms for training, electric generator in case of power failure, work offices. Twenty four employees of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) work at the station, who ensure the security of 81,000 people from 45 settlements of the districts in risk situations.  

„The times we are everybody going through put us to difficult tests. The natural anomalies and the extreme climate phenomena teach us two important things. The first one is that we must be ready to face the challenges. The second lesson is that the cooperation between states is essential before the dangers,’’ Natalia Gavrilita said in her speech.

The deputy head of the mission of the U.S. Embassy in Chisinau, Laura Hruby, said: ‘’The station’s construction was an investment on behalf of the American government and nation for the health, safety and prosperity of Moldova’s people. This is an extra proof of the strong and long-lasting partnership between Moldova and USA.’’  

Attending the ceremony on the launch were also Interior Minister Ana Revenco, IGSU head Mihail Harabagiu and representatives of the local public authorities.   

The construction of the Unit of Rescuers and Firemen was possible due to the support of the European Command of the U.S. Armed Forces and the Office of Military Cooperation of the United States Embassy in Chisinau. The overall cost of the project amounts to 500,000 dollars, of which 900,000 lei was invested by Moldova’s government and 1 million lei – by the Anenii Noi district council. This is the 12th station of this type built in Moldova with the support of this programme.     

A ceremony on the distribution of five new special vehicles for rescue interventions in the districts of Anenii Noi, Hancesti, Cimislia, Causeni and Edinet took place at the event. The new special vehicles were purchased within the project titled, Improvement of infrastructure of operation of the SMURD Moldova and Romania service, financed by the European Union.
