Moldovan government approves new code of railway transport

Chisinau, 25 August /MOLDPRES/ - The reorganization of the railway sector, excluding of the monopoly, liberalization of the railway transport services, creation of a fair investment climate in the branch are some of the provisions of the new code of the railway transport. The document today was approved by the cabinet of ministers and is set to adjust the legislation in the sector to the goals of the Association Agreement with EU, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.     

The draft also refers to the creation of the Railway Authority as body of control and monitoring of the sector. The institution will implement and carry out the policies in the railway transport field and will guarantee the railway security.  

The code also sees that the state will have right to consider possibility of compensating some expenses and investments made by railway passenger transport operators through their subsidization.  

Also, through the draft proposed, decision-makers will establish more rigorous mechanisms of protecting passengers’ rights, thus ensuring the quality of transport services.
