Moldova's Independence Day marked by festive program on Great National Assembly Square

Chisinau, 27 August /MOLDPRES/- Three decades of independence of the Republic of Moldova were marked today in the Grand National Assembly Square, through a festive program and a military parade.

The event was attended by the country's leadership, the presidents of Poland, Andrzej Duda, Romania and Ukraine. Klaus Iohannis and Volodymyr Zelenski arrived in Chisinau late due to fog, which prevented them from taking off and landing in time.

"The Republic of Moldova celebrates 30 years since the proclamation of Independence. On this day, our covenant is that we will build a prosperous and free Moldova, a welcoming home for all its citizens and guests. We will build it together. It is our duty to the forerunners of the struggle for independence and it is the promise we make to today's children. Our country has bright, hardworking and good people - and only with them, it has a future ", said the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, in his speech, delivered during the event.

According to the head of state, Moldova has no natural resources, no markets, but people. "People are our wealth and we will do our best to return home the people who were forced to go abroad," said Maia Sandu.

The festivity in the center of the capital culminated with a military parade, with the participation of representatives of the Ministries of Defense and Internal Affairs. The parade was led by Igor Gorgan, Chief of the General Staff of the National Army, Commander of the National Army.

The Declaration of Independence of the Republic of Moldova was adopted by the Parliament on August 27, 1991.
