Moldovan speaker meets Ukrainian PM

Chisinau, 28 August /MOLDPRES/- Speaker Igor Grosu, accompanied by several MPs met today with Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal, who came to Chisinau together with President Volodymyr Zelensky on the 30th anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Moldova, the parliament's communication and public relations department has reported.
The officials discussed several important issues regarding the Moldovan-Ukrainian cooperation that would contribute to a better cooperation between two neighboring states.
Thus, Igor Grosu pleaded for the strengthening of interparliamentary cooperation at all levels, including between standing committees and friendship groups.
The speaker emphasized the importance of Moldovan-Ukrainian cooperation in the field of European integration, especially in the framework of the Eastern Partnership and the Associated Trio platform. "European integration is not only a firm political decision, but also a strong mandate of the citizens, so we will be consistent in achieving this goal," said Igor Grosu.
The sides voiced willingness to exchange experience between Moldova and Ukraine in fight against corruption, justice reform, building the rule of law.
There was also talk of joint infrastructure projects that would facilitate Moldovan-Ukrainian relations. The importance of implementing the construction project of the road bridge over the Dniester River in the region of Cosăuţi (Moldova) and Iampil (Ukraine) was underlined; the situation on the Dniester River, and the mutual elimination of barriers to trade.
In this context, the Prime Minister of Ukraine stated that there is potential for cooperation in other areas such as: energy security, road and rail transport, logistics, joint control of the COVID-19 pandemic, the fight against corruption, etc.
In conclusion, Denys Shmyhal congratulated the speaker and the citizens on the 30th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Moldova and mentioned that he was honored to share the joy of this holiday while in Chisinau.
