Moldova needs well-equipped army to meet challenges - Armed Forces Supreme Commander says

Chisinau, 2 September /MOLDPRES/- The Republic of Moldova needs a well-equipped army, provided with high-performance equipment, to serve the country and the people, not parties. The statement was made today by the head of state, Maia Sandu, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, at the military-protocol ceremony held on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the creation of the National Army.
The President reiterated the need to continue reforms for the modernization of the National Army, noting its role in ensuring the independence and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova. At the same time, the participation of the Moldovan military in removing the consequences of natural disasters was highlighted, as well as in international peacekeeping missions.
Minister of Defense Anatolie Nosatîi said that among the short-term objectives are the consolidation of relations with external partners and the alignment of the National Army to small but modern armies. "We are a small army, but with big aspirations," the minister remarked.
Also during the ceremony, the 2nd Peacekeeping Battalion was awarded the order "Faith of the Fatherland", class I. Also, several soldiers were awarded with orders, medals, honorary diplomas of the President and Parliament.
National Army Day is marked on September 3.
