Moldovan government's priorities in environmental protection to be supported by EBRD

Chisinau, 3 September /MOLDPRES/- Government's priorities in environmental protection were discussed at a meeting between Minister of Environment Iuliana Cantaragiu and Angela Sax, head of the office of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in the Republic of Moldova.

The Minister spoke about the Government Decision on organization and functioning of the ministry and the importance of reorganizing the specialized central public administration, noting that the institution is the central authority that has the priority mission of protection and sustainable management of natural resources.

Angela Sax welcomed the decision to solve the waste problem by continuing the policy in waste management and by implementing the Loan Agreement in the Waste Management Regions (RMD) No1, 5 and 8. In this context, the official mentioned the willingness of the EBRD to continue providing technical assistance in the process of updating the Feasibility Studies in RMD No1 and 8. At the same time, she mentioned that by late September, the Feasibility Study for the pilot region - RMD No5 will be updated.

Also, it was agreed on the organization of territorial meetings with the local public authorities in order to start the process of collecting information for updating the ongoing Feasibility Studies.

The sides reiterated the commitments made under the Financing Agreement, including on ensuring the co-financing of projects from the state budget through the State Ecological Fund.

During the EBRD's activity in our country, 125 projects worth 1,326.0 million euros were signed to finance projects in various sectors of the national economy.
