Chisinau, 3 September /MOLDPRES/ - Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo today submitted a notification to the Constitutional Court (CCM), for the control of the constitutionality of the amendments made by the parliament to the Law on the Prosecutor’s Office.
“Through the notification submitted, the Prosecutor General asks the High Court to suspend the action of the Law on the amendment of the Law on the Prosecutor’s Office till the cause is settled on the merits, as well as to exercise the control of the constitutionality of the new amendments,’’ reads the press release issued by the institution.
According to the quoted source, the Prosecutor General’s Office expresses its agreement with the way the concerned amendments were promoted and adopted. ‘’The amendments run the risk of producing effects which seriously harm the constitutional principles on the independence of the Prosecutor’s Office and separation of the state powers,’’ the communique also reads.
Today, the amendments made by the parliament on 24 August to the law on the Prosecutor’s Office entered into force, after they had been published in the Official Journal (Monitorul Oficial).
