Ministry of Economy to ensure continuity of actions to promote green economy

Chisinau, 10 September /MOLDPRES/- The inter-ministerial working group for promoting sustainable development and the green economy was convened in an ordinary working meeting to discuss the results of activities carried out in the first half of this year, within the EU4Environment project in the Republic of Moldova, but also the action agenda for 2022.

Minister of Economy Sergiu Gaibu appreciated the results obtained by the Working Group in promoting the green economy in Moldova during the six months of activity, emphasizing that the implementation of EU4Environment projects complement the Government's efforts to align with environmental objectives, greening Small and Medium Enterprises Means and economic sectors, more efficient use of resources and modernization of production processes, said sources from the Ministry of Economy.

In this context, Gaibu referred to the priorities related to the objectives of the Interministerial Working Group, emphasizing that they are found in the Government Action Plan for 2021-2022,and in the National Development Strategy "Moldova 2030".

"The revitalization of the economy is a national goal, and the continuous integration of environmental requirements can bring added value in all sectors of the national economy. The Ministry of Economy will ensure the continuity of previous actions and will actively contribute to the promotion of ecological approaches within Industrial Parks and Free Economic Zones, to the efficiency of resources and the modernization of production processes ", said Sergiu Gaibu.

The European Union for Environment regional project aims to assist the Eastern Partnership countries: Moldova, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia and Ukraine in ensuring the sustainable use of natural capital, improving the quality of the environment and the well-being of the population and stimulating economic growth. The project is implemented in 2019-2022 and has a total budget of about 20 million euros for six countries and five implementing institutions - OECD, UNECE, UN Environment, UNIDO and the World Bank.
