Moldovan deputy premier meets special representative of OSCE chairperson-in-office for Transnistrian settlement

Chisinau, 13 September /MOLDPRES/- Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, received Ambassador Thomas Mayr-Harting, Special Representative of OSCE chaiperson-in-office for the Transnistrian Settlement Process, who is on a working visit to Moldova on 12-14 September, the MAEIE press service has reported.
The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views on current developments in the process of resolving the conflict in the Transnistrian region of Moldova, as well as the existing perspectives in advancing this process.
The two officials stressed the importance of consolidating the progress made in the regulatory process, the need to intensify cooperation and efforts to respect fundamental human rights and freedoms in the Transnistrian region of the country, and to address related issues affecting residents on both banks of the Dniester.
The head of Moldovan diplomacy reiterated the readiness and openness of the Chisinau authorities to continue to maintain a dynamic and constructive dialogue. "The Republic of Moldova continues to rely on the support of the OSCE and other external partners involved in identifying a viable solution to a peaceful and comprehensive settlement of the conflict in the east of the country," Popescu said.
