Moldova attends 71st session of WHO Regional Committee for Europe

Chisinau, 14 September /MOLDPRES/- On 13-15 September, Ministers of Health and High Representatives of 53 Member States of the European Region of the World Health Organization, together with partner organizations and civil society participate online in the 71st session of the WHO Regional Committee for Europe, held in Copenhagen, Denmark.
According to the organizers, for the second year in a row, the main topic discussed at the meeting is the COVID-19 pandemic, response measures, lessons learned and preparation for the next pandemic.
State Secretary of the Health Ministry Zinaida Bezverhni thanked for the constant support provided by WHO and international partners in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, noting that the Republic of Moldova has ambitious goals to strengthen the health system by providing population with accessible, efficient and equitable health services.
"We are now at the right time to implement what we have learned from the pandemic, to implement better reforms and to improve our country's health care system. We intend to invest in the strategic development and consolidation of public health and primary health care, through the use of digital tools, which will contribute significantly to improving the quality of services, not only during the pandemic, "said the Secretary of State.
Topics to be addressed at the event include: reinventing primary care and rethinking health priorities, monitoring the implementation of the European Program of Action, with a focus on immunization and mental health, and strengthening the WHO politically, technically and financially etc. Also, during these days, a series of conferences will be held on the topics: health and social workforce, climate change and health, access to medicines, health literacy, alcohol prevention policies.
The WHO Regional Committee for Europe is the decision-making body of the WHO, which decides on regional health policies and strategies and monitors the organisation's work in the region.
