Moldovan president attends meeting of heads of state, government on promoting gender equality

Chisinau, 22 September /MOLDPES/- President Maia Sandu, who is in New York on the 76th session of the UN General Assembly, participated, on September 21, in a meeting of the Heads of State and Government on promoting gender equality, the presidential press service has reported.
The event was initiated by UN General Assembly Head Abdullah Shahid and aimed to highlight the efforts of women leaders to improve the situation in this regard in the countries they lead.
Maia Sandu said that in the Republic of Moldova the number of women who occupy high-ranking positions in the public sphere and are active in politics is increasing. At the same time, the leader from Chisinau addressed the challenges that our country continues to face in gender equality.
In this context, Maia Sandu said that much remains to be done to ensure genuine equality and eliminate violence against women - an increasingly acute problem in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic.
