Wind mill from Gagauzia to be restored with EU's support

Chisinau, 24 September /MOLDPRES/ - A wind mill from the Gaidar village, Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia, constructed in the end of the 19th century, will be restored and opened for public with the support of the EU’s Confidence Building Measures, implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).  

According to UNDP, project sketches for the wind mill’s restoration have been already worked out, based on local and international regulations on the conservation of the cultural heritage.

Most original elements will be preserved in the rehabilitation process; the lacking or defective ones will be replaced with new pieces, preserving the authenticity.

The wind mill will again become functional following the restoration process. Thus, visitors will be able to watch the process of milling. The mill’s working capacity is low, only several tens of kg per day, yet enough to make an incursion in history. Also, the wind mill from Gaidar will be included in the touristic circuit.  

The wind mill from the Gaidar village was built in the end of the 19th century. It is made fully out of wood, including the mechanisms which process the cereals. The mill worked till 2005. There are another four such wind mills in Moldova.
