Chisinau, 1 October /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu has conveyed a message for the elderly people, on the occasion of the International Day of Older Persons, the presidential press service has reported.
„Most old people from Moldova have a difficult living – we have promised that we would undertake measures to improve the situation. Today, when we mark the International Day of Older Persons, the law which ensures the increase of the minimal pension up to 2,000 lei enters into force. All those who have a pension under this threshold will receive a solidarity supplement on the behalf of the state,’’ the head of state said.
President Maia Sandu said that 308,000 pensioners would benefit from the increase in the income. The pensioners with complete retirement contributions will receive, on average, by 366 lei more and those with incomplete retirement contributions – by 399 lei more. The allocation for the elderly people without pension increases up to 1,000 lei. Also, starting from 1 October 2021, all pensions will be indexed by 3.86 per cent, in order to compensate the prices’ increase.
„The increases are not high; yet, they represent a beginning. In the next months, we will extend the access to social services for the lonely elder people. Our duty is to provide the elderly people an old age lived in dignity. We will work to achieve this,’’ Maia Sandu said.
The head of state also came up with an urge to Moldova’s citizens: ‘’Let us not forget, at the same time, that a good word, asking about the life and health matters a lot for our parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. I urge you everybody: let us speak to them! On the Day of the Older Persons, as well as on every other day. Our attention, our presence beside them turns their life easier.’’
