Moldovan PM meets President of Slovenia

Chisinau, 1 October /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita today had a meeting with President of Slovenia Borut Pahor, on an official visit to Moldova, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.  

Natalia Gavrilita appreciated the importance of the official’s visit to Chisinau, given that Slovenia holds the Presidency of the EU Council starting from last June till the end of 2021 and this country’s support is highly appreciated by Moldova.    

„We express gratitude to Slovenia’s government for the decision to recognize the vaccination certificates issued by the Moldovan authorities, in line with the standards of the World Health Organization (WHO). For us, Slovenia has always been a partner and a good friend within EU and we hope that these relations will be deepened,’’ the PM said. Gavrilita stressed that the Moldovan cabinet would closely cooperate with EU in the promotion of the key reforms, economic recovery, strengthening the institutions, managing the pandemic, etc.    

The officials discussed possibilities of boosting the Moldovan-Slovenian commercial relations. Thus, the prime minister reiterated the request earlier submitted to the Slovenian side to provide, besides the annual pre-established share, another 200 authorizations for the motor international transport of goods. This need appeared following a fostered cooperation of transport operators between the two countries.   

The sides also discussed the results of the visit to Brussels by the prime minister. The officials spoke out for resuming the Moldovan-Slovenian consultations in the European integration sector, security, as well as consolidating the European Union’s relations with the Eastern Partnership member states, including Moldova.    

Ten bilateral treaties have been signed between Moldova and Slovenia, which regulate such sectors as the avoidance of double taxation and preventing the tax evasion, combating the money laundering, international transport, readmission of the people in illegal stay. This is the first visit by a Slovenian president to Moldova in the last 19 years.
