Chisinau, 4 October /MOLDPRES/ - Infrastructure and Regional Development Minister Andrei Spinu today had a meeting with Director General of the Transgaz Romania Ion Sterian and Manager of Eurotransgaz Nicolae Faranga Dan. At the event, the Romanian side informed the official about the finality of the works for construction of the Iasi-Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline.

The Iasi-Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline, with a length of about 150 km, of which 110 km on the territory of Moldova, interconnects the networks of gas from Romania and Moldova, providing Moldova access to the European energy market. The gas pipeline was extended on the side of Moldova with the Ungheni-Chisinau segment, as well as on the side of Romania with the pipeline Onesti-Ghenaiesti- Letcani and two gas compression stations.

„Moldova must diversify its gas supply sources and this pipeline gives us this chance. The works of the gas pipeline were finished on both sides and we plan the opportunity to deliver gas through this pipeline on the next period,’’ Spinu said.

The gas pipeline was finished in August 2020 and the extension works mentioned on the Romanian side finished in early October 2021; thus, the Iasi-Ungheni interconnector has become fully functional.

Transgaz Romania is the national gas transport operator from the neighbour country and owns also the Moldovan company VestMoldTransgaz – the gas transport operator for the segment from the border up to Chisinau.
