Moldovan National Energy Regulatory Agency, Competition Council might be merged

Chisinau, 5 October /MOLDPRES/ - Public discussions on the merging of the National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE) and the Competent Council today started on the platform of the parliamentary commission for economy, budget and finances.
At the first meeting on this subject, the head of the aforementioned commission, Dumitru Alaiba, said that the goal of the public consultations was that the reform is carried out as quickly and efficiently as possible and result in the setting up of a professional, strong and independent institution.
”We considered the experience of Estonia and other European Union countries, where such an institutional; arrangement works. We want to make a change in Moldova as well, and in 2022 we should have an institution which is to meet the needs of the market and the citizens,’’ Dumitru Alaiba stressed.
In continuation, a draft law on the amendment of the relevant normative framework is to be worked out; the draft is also to be discussed, with the participation of specialists in the sector, experts, representatives of the community of donors and civil society.
The National Energy Regulatory Agency and the Competent Council are to be merged into a single institution – the Regulatory and Reforms Authority. The initiative was launched by the parliamentary faction, Action and Solidarity Party.
