Moldovan Superior Council of Prosecutors holds new meeting

Chisinau, 5 October /MOLDPRES/ - The Superior Council of Prosecutors (CSP) holds a new meeting today evening, in order to select and put forward an acting prosecutor general to the Moldovan president. Justice Minister Sergiu Litvinenco made statements to this effect, noting that the meeting was scheduled for 19:00.
CSP convenes at a meeting after today the prosecutor nominated for analyzing a notification by MP Lilian Carp had ruled to start criminal proceedings against Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo.
Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo had planned a news briefing at the headquarters of the Prosecutor General’s Office (PG) for 18:00. Just before the starting of the briefing, masked employees of the Intelligence and Security Service (SIS) make a raid at PG.
Contacted by MOLDPRES, the institution’s press service did not answer at phone, to tell whether Stoianoglo was detained or not.
Under the Article 55/1 from the Law No 3/2016 on the Prosecutor’s Office, ‘’the mandate of the Prosecutor General, against whom a criminal file was opened, in the conditions of the Article 270, paragraph (7) of the criminal procedure code, is suspended de jure on the period of the criminal prosecution.’’ Also, by operation of the law (Article 18, paragraph (4) of the Law No 3/2016 on the Prosecutor’s Office), the deputies of the Prosecutor’s General are suspended de jure too.
