Chisinau, 11 October /MOLDPRES/- A number of 200 pupils and 36 teachers from 56 educational institutions in Chisinau have fallen ill with COVID-19.
Andrei Pavaloi, acting head of the Education, Youth and Sports Department, said at today's online meeting of the city hall that after the controls carried out in the 131 municipal educational institutions, an increase in the number of coronavirus patients was found. "Statistics show that on October 7, 200 pupils and 36 teachers with coronavirus were registered in 56 public educational institutions," Pavaloi said.
According to the official, the increase in the number of illnesses among students is due to negligence in the family and the low vaccination rate nationwide. Pavaloi said that "out of the 2,274 teachers and auxiliary staff tested free of charge by the Education, Youth and Sports Department, 334 people were tested positive".
At the same time, the number of teachers who were immunized with the first vaccine increased to 75 percent of the total. "We want to reach a maximum of 95 percent of teachers and vaccinated support staff, this would stop coronavirus infection in municipal schools," said Pavaloi.
According to the data presented at the meeting of the mayor's office services, out of a total of 131 municipal educational institutions, currently 111 institutions operate with the physical presence of students and teachers in classrooms and 20 institutions operate according to the mixed system.
