Foreign affairs minister receives representative of UN Women in Moldova

Chisinau, 11 October /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu today received Representative of UN Women in Moldova Dominika Stojanoska. The officials discussed a foreign policy of equal chances and accepted the holding, at the Foreign Affairs Ministry, of an audit on the gender equality, which will contribute to the fulfillment of the commitments taken by Moldova in this sector, including at the institutional level.
The Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MAEIE) press service has told MOLDPRES that Deputy PM Nicu Popescu at the discussion referred to the fact that Moldova had considerably advanced in terms of promotion of women’s rights and combating the domestic violence. Popescu also said that the parliament had recently approved, in the first reading, the ratification of the Istanbul Convention, for the implementation of which the support of UN Women was requested.
„We tackled ways of Moldova’s involvement in the carrying out of the Global Acceleration Plan for Gender Equality, which is the product of the Generation Equality Forum, a global initiative led by Mexico and France, meant to speed up, in the next five years, the carrying out of the gender equality through innovation partnerships,’’ Minister Nicu Popescu said.
