Chisinau, 12 October /MOLDPRES/- General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations / IGSU / today launched a campaign to prevent carbon dioxide poisoning following the wine fermentation process.
The campaign will take place throughout the country. IGSU employees will go through several private households to inform citizens about the risks of non-compliance with life security when households make house wine.
Rescuers warn that carbon dioxide emitted by the fermentation process is a toxic substance, odorless and colorless, and its inhalation can become fatal to humans if left in the open and unventilated for a long time.
Thus, in order to check the oxygen concentration in the cellars and basements, rescuers recommend people to light a candle and, if it goes out, not to go inside, as the oxygen supply is insufficient.
The campaign to prevent cases of carbon dioxide poisoning will last throughout the grape harvest and fermentation period, and rescuers will warn people about the risks and the necessary measures to be taken.
According to IGSU statistics, in 2020, three people suffered from carbon dioxide poisoning.
