Chisinau, 13 October /MOLDPRES/- The Committee for Emergencies, chaired by Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița, which met today in a meeting, announced a state of alert regarding the country's energy sector, especially gas supply.
"An alert has been announced in the Committee for Emergencies regarding the gas sector. The alert state is to prevent the onset of an emergency and to be prepared for any scenario. I want to be clear - the state of alert is for the responsible institutions to be able to take concrete measures to protect the citizens and the country's energy security. The state of alert was decided based on the decision of the Government ", Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spinu, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development said.
According to the official, the increase in gas prices is unprecedented in recent years and has affected several countries. "The Republic of Moldova is inevitably affected by these price increases, and the Government is preparing a series of compensatory measures to protect citizens from the shock of rising prices. Or, the state of alert implies several actions for the authorities and the actors on the energy market, which will put into operation the institutions in order to protect the population and the public sector ", Andrei Spînu said.
In this context, he said he had discussions with the leaders of the companies responsible for the energy sector such as Moldovagaz, Termoelectrica, CETs, Moldelectrica, Energocom, etc., to see what are the steps to follow. "We have a clear strategy for overcoming the crisis, so that consumers are helped and protected," he said.
Among the immediate measures, Andrei Spinu called for cost compensation for gas consumers, identification of alternative solutions, as well as the release and use of fuel oil from current reserves, for at least a month, to save and reduce gas consumption from Termoelectrica.
"We are going through a difficult period, but I am convinced that we will get over it and find the necessary ways to get out of this state of affairs as dramatically as possible," he said.
