Chisinau residents mark City's Dedication Day

Chisinau, 14 October /MOLDPRES/ - The Chisinau residents today mark the city’s Dedication Day, an day when the old-style Orthodox Christians celebrate the Holy Protection of the Mother of God.
On this occasion, the Chisinau city hall prepared a schedule of cultural events held in all districts of the Moldovan capital.
Today morning, representatives of the local public administration laid flowers at the monument to Ruler Stefan cel Mare and participated in the officiating of the Holy Liturgy at the Birth of God Metropolitan Cathedral. Afterwards, the inauguration of the holiday, Dedication Day of Chisinau, took place.
A fair of popular artisans was opened in the Square of the Metropolitan Cathedral, where works of painting, workmanship, national costumes, handmade were exhibited. Also, a monograph titled, The Former Chisinau, a work by PhD in history Andrei Esanu and Valentina Esanu, is to be launched at the City’s History Museum.
Also, a recital of classical music and poetry is to take place in the Stefan cel Mare Public Garden. Music recitals are to be held in diverse places during the day.
The Satiricus Theatre as of 19:30 will present the play, The Rhinoceroses, by Eugen Ionesco, staged by the Matei Visniec Municipal Theatre from Suceava, Romania.
All events will be organized with the observance of the protection measures.
The first mention of Chisinau dates back from 1436 and the subsequent mentions describe a town group around the parishes Birth of the Virgin Mary (Mazarache) and Holy Emperors Constantine and Helen (Rascani).
On 14 October, the dedication day is marked in more settlements of Moldova. According to the Orthodox Church, the Miracle of the Protection of the Blessed Virgin took place in the Saint Mary of Blachernae Church in Constantinople during the Emperor Leo VI the Wise (886-912). The Mother of God appeared during an all-night-long vigil, surrounded by saints, praying to God for all the mankind.
