Two tax inspectors from Ungheni investigated by CNA for corruption

Chisinau, 15 October /MOLDPRES/- Two employees of the post-operational fiscal control department within the State Tax Service are being investigated for corruption by the National Anticorruption Center, after they were denounced by a businessman.
According to CNA, today the officers of the institution carried out several searches at the homes and service offices of the two employees from Ungheni.
According to the accumulated materials, the inspectors allegedly demanded from an economic agent 40,000 lei in order not to include in the control act the deviations found following the verifications, carried out at his company. The officials allegedly promised the economic agent that they would overlook the lack of accounting documents, which concern the amount of 600,000 lei, but also other irregularities related to the lack of roadmaps or their improper completion.
Following the denunciation, CNA opened a criminal case for passive corruption. During the searches, carried out at the inspectors' homes, different amounts of money were found, in lei and foreign currency.
If found guilty, the two inspectors risk up to 10 years in prison, deprivation of the right to hold public office for up to 10 years and a fine.
