Moldova to cooperate with South Korea in agri-food sector

Chisinau, 15 October /MOLDPRES/- Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Viorel Gherciu had a meeting today with Hyung-Tae Kim, Ambassador of Korea to Moldova, based in Kiev. The sides agreed to step up cooperation in the agri-food sector.
"South Korea is one of the target markets on the Asian continent for the Moldovan wine sector. In this regard, we will appreciate the support of the Korean side for the continuous promotion of high quality Moldovan agro-industrial products through the participation of Moldovan producers in thematic events organized in South Korea. At the same time, we encourage the advancement of the bilateral dialogue between the governments of our countries, especially in the segment of attracting mutual investments ", said Gherciu.
At the same time, he approached the opportunity to boost trade and economic relations and organize study visits for businessmen from both states. "As priority areas for Moldovan-Korean cooperation, they would be: the production of seedlings and apples, the development of the greenhouse sector, the production of seasonal onions, by achieving the exchange of good practices," he said.
For his part, Hyung-Tae Kim called for the progress of Moldovan-Korean relations and the intensification of the agri-food trade.
In 2018, two documents were signed in order to strengthen the friendly relations between the states: Memorandum of Understanding on the dissemination of Korean horticultural technology; Memorandum of Understanding between the Center of Excellence in Viticulture and Vinification in Chisinau, Andong National University of the Republic of Korea and two agricultural companies from both countries.
Also, at the initiative of a group of Korean entrepreneurs, an enterprise was founded in our country that promotes among the Moldovan farmers varieties of autumn onions and their cultivation technologies.
