Departed Moldovan academician would have turned 100 years

Chisinau, 18 October /MOLDPRES/ - Academician, specialist in the social economics, PhD in economic sciences, university professor, corresponding member of Moldova’s Academy of Sciences (ASM) Andrei Timus would have turned 100 years today.
Andrei Timus was born in the Molovata Noua village, eastern Dubasari district, on 18 October 1921. He graduated from the Journalism Faculty of the Higher Political School from Moscow (1954), after which he continued the education for the doctor’s degree at the Economics Institute of ASM (1965). Timus maintained the degree of doctor in economic sciences in 1966 and the one of PhD in economic sciences in 1979.
In1967-1971 and during 1983-1987, he worked as deputy editor-in-chief and editor-in-chief, respectively, of the Moldovan Soviet Encyclopedia. As of 1971 till 1991, Timus acted as sector chief at the philosophy and law section of Moldova’s Academy of Sciences.
According to the National Calendar, in 1976, Andrei Timus founded the Association of Sociologists and Demographers of Moldova, whose head he was till 1991. Starting from the same year, he held the office of chief scientific researcher of the Institute of Philosophy, Sociology and Law of ASM. He was the founder of the school of sociological researchers from Moldova.
Timus was author of more than 400 scientific works. Over 50 of theses of doctor’s degrees, of which PhD degrees, were maintained under his guidance. He was member of the ASM Presidium, of the Commission of Experts of the National Council for Accreditation and Attestation. Timus was awarded military distinctions, the titles of merited man and laureate of the State Prize of Moldova. Andrei Timus was awarded the Badge of Honour, Order of the Republic, Medal for Bravery in Work. Academician Andrei Timus died in Chisinau on 12 February 2018.
