Sweden to support agro-industrial sector in Moldova

Chisinau, 19 October /MOLDPRES/- Sweden will work out for Moldova a set of activities to boost bilateral relations in the agro-industrial sector. This was discussed at yesterday meeting between Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Viorel Gherciu and Katarina Fried, Ambassador of Sweden to Chisinau.

The set of activities will include: organizing a press visit to Sweden to participate under the country brand Wine of Moldova in the exhibition Stockholm Food and Wine; conducting PR and communication campaigns for Moldovan wine tourism in Sweden; developing collaboration with the Swedish side in the field of prophylaxis and combating rabies in animals, including diseases in aquatic animals; organizing seminars with Swedish partners to introduce modern technologies in the production of aquaculture food and increase market delivery.

"I am grateful for the financial assistance provided by the Government of Sweden to the Republic of Moldova for the implementation of projects in the field of agriculture, especially for the contribution as a grant of $ 2.8 million, money provided for the implementation of the Competitive Agriculture in Moldova Project (MAC-P). Thus, we managed to increase the competitiveness of the country's agri-food sector, to facilitate the access of agricultural producers to various markets and the integration of environmental agricultural practices and those of sustainable land management ", said Viorel Gherciu.

According to the minister, a feasibility study is currently being carried out to support the decisions of the country's Government regarding the investment in a management system for animal by-products in the Republic of Moldova. "At the same time, we intend to strengthen efforts to improve the quality of agri-food products and adjust quality standards to international ones," he said.
