Chisinau, 19 October /MOLDPRES/ - The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) and the International Republican Institute (IRI) from the United States will cooperate for strengthening the communication with the voters from the Diaspora.
The leadership of the central electoral authority had a meeting with the new head of the IRI Office in Moldova, Krzysztof Lisek, during which the sides discussed aspects of the cooperation between the two institutions.
The CEC leadership appreciated the openness for cooperation, noting that the activities of strengthening the communication with the Diaspora, set forth by IRI, fit the priority commitments of the Commission: improvement of the electoral legislation and improvement of the electoral processes through the implementation of alternative ways of voting. These goals set by CEC have the aim including to facilitate the participation of Moldova’s citizens from abroad in the voting.
“For the current composition of the Central Electoral Commission, this will not be an excuse, if it fails to correct the situations from the last ballots, when electors from abroad had to face difficulties to exercise their right to vote,’’ CEC head Angelica Caraman said.
At the same time, the two sides agreed to organize information campaigns for the voters from abroad, in order to be aware of the importance of the voting, as well as to hold trainings for the political parties on the correct enforcement of the legal provisions on financial management and reporting.
