Chisinau, 25 October /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova’s government informs that today, 25 October, a contract was signed for a test procurement of one million cubic metres of gas between the state company Energocom and the Polish company PGNiG, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
This is the first acquisition of gas from alternative sources in Moldova’s history. At a tender announced, Energocom received 7 bids. The test procurement is meant to test the capacity of the import of gas from alternative sources and to balance the low pressure in the natural gas supply system.
Moldova’s cabinet is negotiating with Russia and the Gazprom giant for the signing of a long-term agreement on delivery of natural gas. Given the decrease in the pressure from the national distribution network, the acquisition from alternative sources allows maintaining the supply of natural gas to consumers.
The tariff paid by the citizen for the natural gas stays unchanged.
