Authorities draw on French experience of local development

Chisinau, 26 October /MOLDPRES/- An international seminar on local development and importance of inter-community cooperation in water resources management, food security, waste management is held in Chisinau on 25 -27 October.

The event is organized by the French Embassy in Moldova, in partnership with the European Water Solidarity Association (SWE) and Decentralized Cooperation Project on Waste Management - Savoie Déchets.

Attending the seminar are representatives of the central public authorities, of the local administrations of level II, representatives of the profile institutions in water, local development, public services etc.

The meeting aims at exchanging experience with the French side in integrated governance for water and waste resources, discussing opportunities and challenges to improve public services and increase access to water sources for irrigation, as well as to identify joint projects in this regard. During the event, Government representatives spoke about the strategies of Moldova for local development, water and waste management, access to water source for irrigation, etc.

Thus, Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Viorel Gherciu provided information on the situation of the agricultural sector, on the renovation works of irrigation systems, as well as on the challenges and priorities of the Government in order to stimulate sustainable agricultural activities in rural areas.

According to the official, "it is important that in the process of rehabilitating irrigation systems we ensure the implementation of innovative practices for the efficient and sustainable use of water resources." "In this regard, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry makes significant efforts to identify resources needed to achieve the stated goal. At the same time, we count on the support, counseling, exchange of good practices with the development partners, as well as on the opening to cooperation of the competent national authorities ”, said Viorel Gherciu.
