Moldovan education ministry leaves in force decision to extend vacation in some schools

Chisinau, 1 November /MOLDPRES/ - The Education and Research Ministry (MEC) today came up with a reaction to a petition by a group of parents on the cancellation of the decision on the extension of the autumn vacation in the education institutions from the areas under the red code of alert of COVID-19.  

The Education Ministry reiterated that it had ruled to prolong the autumn vacation for the education institutions placed in the settlements under the red code of alert, at a recommendation by the National Extraordinary Public Health Commission (CNESP), in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19.  

„According to data presented by the local specialty bodies in the education sector, on 1-7 November, 422 education institutions will have extended vacation. These institutions will resume the education process with pupils’ physical presence on 8 November 2021. At the same time, it is worth mentioning that, starting from 1 November, 817 general education institutions from the settlements which are not under the red code of alert resumed the education process with pupils’ physical presence,’’ MEC said.

The institution’s press release reads that ‘’the Education and Research Ministry treats with understanding and fully shares the parents’ concerns about the extension of the autumn vacation in some education institutions; nevertheless, one of the basic concerns of the ministry is the pupils’ and teachers’ health condition, given the increase the number of infections with COVID-19.’’  

The ministry gave assurances that it would cooperate with the territorial competent bodies and directors of the education institutions, in order to identify the best ways and terms of recovering classes.
