Chisinau, 2 November /MOLDPRES/- An enormous loss for the Republic of Moldova. Painter Valentina Rusu-Ciobanu, one of the most famous and beloved plastic artists in our country - witnessed the troubled 20th century and the history of this land, a creator who had the strength to follow her path and vision passed away.
Valentina Rusu-Ciobanu was born on October 28, 1920, in Chisinau. She was attracted to the visual arts as a child and kept her passion for painting over the years.
She is the laureate of the State Prize of the MSSR (1974), Master Emeritus in Art of the MSSR (1980), People's Artist (1985).
In 1996 she was awarded the Order of the Republic, and in 1998 she won the Prize of the Fine Artists Union for her entire activity.
In 2009 she was awarded the Dimitrie Cantemir medal of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, and in 2010 she was awarded the title of Honorary Citizen of Chisinau. In 2020, she was awarded the Order of Cultural Merit in the rank of Grand Officer, Category C - "Fine Arts", awarded by President of Romania Klaus Iohannis.
She has had numerous exhibitions in the country and abroad - in Romania, Bulgaria, Poland, Canada, Syria, Iraq, France. Her works have been exhibited at the National Museum of Art of Moldova, which keeps in its funds an important collection of paintings by Valentina Rusu-Ciobanu, at the Exhibition Center Constantin Brancusi, at the National Library of the Republic of Moldova. Her paintings can be found in art galleries in many countries.
