Six more suspects detained in Ashima cigarette smuggling case

Chisinau, 2 November /MOLDPRES/- Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases (PCCOCS) today carried out searches in the case on smuggling scheme with 179 boxes of Ashima cigarettes, uncovered in July.

Searches took place at the homes of the suspects, in Cahul and Chisinau. Three of the six detained are employees of the General Inspectorate of Border Police. Among the detained border employees are a former interim head of the Cahul Border Police sector, as well as a former head of the South Regional Directorate of the Inspectorate.

Currently, there are 14 people in the Ashima cigarette smuggling case, with the status of accused and suspect.
