Moldovan president says protection, extension of forests must become common mission

Chisinau, 2 November /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu welcomes the signing of the Glasgow Leaders’ Declaration on Forests and Land Use. Moldova today joined this declaration, which expresses intention to cease the deforestation till 2030, the presidential press service has reported.
President Maia Sandu reiterates that, for Moldova, the re-afforestation is a national priority and the quality of life of the people from Moldova depends on its carrying out. ‘’The protection and extension of woods must become our common mission. The uncontrolled cuttings must be stopped. We need courageous and well-thought out environment policies, with interventions in economy, production and consumption, including a national ambitious programme on forests’ restoration. In Moldovan, just as in any other place on the planet, people deserve to live in a clean and sound environment, for many generations on,’’ the head of state said.
The Leaders’ Declaration on Forests and Land Use, signed by over 100 countries at the Glasgow (United Kingdom) Climate Change Conference, provides for boosting the international cooperation in the field of sustainable development, stimulating sustainable practices in agriculture, as well as increasing finances for the preservation and restoration of forests.
