EU provides grant worth 1.16 million euros for strengthening research, innovation in Moldova

Chisinau, 3 November /MOLDPRES/ - The cabinet of ministers today approved the signing of a contract on grant for Moldova’s participation in the Horizon 2020 European Union Programme. The contract, worth 1.16 million euros, will be signed to strengthen and develop the research and innovation sector in Moldova, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
Through the grant, the Education and Research Ministry is set to boost projects on research on urgent problems, to develop efficient policies for backing young researchers, as well as to provide proper financial support for the organization of research contests meant for young people.
At the same time, the grant will be used also for holding research and innovation contests in the fields of intelligent specialization (energy, bio-pharmaceutics, agriculture and food products’ processing, Information and Communication Technologies). This will contribution to Moldova’s positioning on specific markets/niches internationally, facilitating the attraction of private investments.
Also, the financing got will ensure the promotion of Moldova’s integration in the European Research Area and will enhance the impact of the scientific researches on the development of the national economy and the society on the whole.
The Contract on Grant comes from the Agreement on Financing between Moldova’s government and the European Commission, Support for Implementation of Moldova-EU Association Agreement, ratified through the Law 152/2019.
