Leadership of National Bank of Moldovan pays visit to London

Chisinau, 16 November /MOLDPRES/ - Governor of the National Bank of Moldova (BNM) Octavian Armasu and BNM Deputy Governor Vladimir Munteanu on 15 November participated in the Capital Market Day in Moldova, held at the headquarters of the London Stock Exchange.
The central bank’s leadership stressed the major role of the authorities, business people and investors to strengthen efforts for a common vision in the development of a safe and sustainable future, BNM sources have reported.
„We have lately implemented a quite important agenda of reforms, including the programme with IMF and these reforms have yielded tangible results, the outcome of which was also the attraction of international investors – 90 per cent of our bank assets are owned by European investors. The banks are well-capitalized and well-governed. The reforms enhanced the transparency and confidence for clients, including the depositors. (…) The banking sector proved to be resistant, especially during the pandemic crisis and, in fact, provided necessary support to the economy,’’ Octavian Armasu said in the opening of the event.
The official noted that Moldova’s banking system was aligned to the best international and European standards, with the requirements of Basel III implemented. ‘’BNM, as regulatory and supervision authority, will further make efforts, so that the achievements reached with difficulty in the last years be constantly protected and improved. We want to have, in continuation, a strong banking sector, adapted to the digital age. In this respect, BNM commits to promote the development of the banking sector, for the benefit of the citizens and of Moldova’s modernization,’’ the BNM governor said.
For his part, the BNM deputy governor, Vladimir Munteanu, made a presentation at the session titled, Moldova – general outlook on the macroeconomic and investment climate.
The London event’s goal was to promote investment opportunities in Moldova. The forum was an efficient platform of interaction between representatives of the government, central bank, public and private companies from Moldova and international financial institutions.
At the visit to London, the BNM leadership took part in a career fair for Moldovans settled in the United Kingdom. The participants in the event unveiled, inter alia, career opportunities at the National Bank of Moldova. Subsequently, the BNM leadership, along with Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita, met a group of Moldovan citizens from the Diaspora.
The visit to the UK took place on 15-16 November.
