Well-known folk music singer records CD of folk music

Chisinau, 16 November /MOLDPRES/ - A well-known singer, People’s Artist, the head of the ethno-folkloric band, Crenguța de iederă, from the Moldovan State University (USM) Maria Iliut has lately recorded a folk music CD titled, Mândru mi-i portul și jocul (My proud costume and dance).
Contacted by MOLDPRES, Maria Iliut said that the CD comprised 20 songs sung by her and the aforementioned band.
On the pandemic period, Maria Iliut along with her ethno-folkloric band gave concerts all over Moldova, in Cluj, Romania, Chernivtsi, Ukraine, and other settlements.
Maria Iliut was born in the Crasna village, Storojinet district, Chernivtsi region, Ukraine, on 23 February 1955. In 1978-84, she studied at the Gavriil Musicescu Arts Institute from Chisinau. As of 1983, Iliut worked as soloist in more ethno-folkloric bands. Presently, she works as superior lecturer at the Fine Arts Faculty of USM, where she leads her ethno-folkloric band, which she created and which has the title of model band from Moldova.
She made more tours to Cyprus, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Turkey and other countries.
Maria Iliut was awarded the Diploma of Excellence of Romania’s General Consulate in Chernivtsi, with the prize, Golden Heart, for the promotion of the authentic folklore (2007), the Golden Horseshoe prize, for creativity, professional mastership and constant presence in top of folk songs (2010), other prizes. She is member of the Musicians’ Union of Moldova and the Bucharest-Chisinau Cultural Society. In 2020, Maria Iliut was awarded the honorific title, People’s Artist.
