Moldovans working in Italy, Greece to get pensions

Chisinau, 18 November /MOLDPRES/- Citizens of the Republic of Moldova, who are employed or have worked in Italy or Greece will be able to benefit from a pension in these countries, upon reaching retirement age. The legislature ratified today with 82 votes, the agreements between Moldova and the two countries.
The agreement with the Italian Republic in social security was signed in Rome on June 18, 2021 and the similar agreement with the Hellenic Republic was signed on September 8 this year. The documents establish a framework of social security guarantees for migrant workers from Moldova.
Entitled persons will benefit from old-age pensions, disability pensions caused by general illnesses, pensions and disability allowances following work accidents or caused by occupational diseases, survivor's pensions.
According to the provisions, each contracting state shall pay the portion of the pension calculated in proportion to the period of insurance completed in its territory. Thus, the person will benefit from the benefits acquired in the countries in which he carried out his activity, on the territory of the home state.
To date, the Republic of Moldova has signed social security agreements with 16 states, 14 of which are in force.
