Seven candidates selected for position of member of National Television Supervisory Board

Chisinau, 22 November /MOLDPRES/ - Seven candidates for the position of member of the Supervisory and Development Board of the national public media service provider will be proposed to Parliament's plenary. The Committee on Culture, Education, Research, Youth, Sport and Media today heard and approved the candidates proposed by the parliamentary factions and civil society organizations.
14 people submitted applications to the competition, but two of them withdrew their candidacies. The members of the Commission interviewed 12 candidates: Arcadie Gherasim and Sergiu Stanciu, proposed by the parliamentary majority; Corneliu Popovici, proposed by the opposition; nine candidates proposed by civil society organizations: Ecaterina Cheptănaru, Grigore Ciorici, Aurelian Dănilă, Alexandru Grosu, Loretta Handrabura, Cristian Jardan, Irina Mațenco, Leonid Smolnițchi and Alexandru Verșinin.
Based on the votes cast by the members of the Commission, the following candidates will be proposed for appointment to the plenary of the Parliament: Arcadie Gherasim, Sergiu Stanciu, Corneliu Popovici, Aurelian Dănilă, Loretta Handrabura, Cristian Jardan and Irina Mațenco.
According to the legislation, the Supervisory and Development Council of the national public media service provider consists of seven members - three proposed by the parliamentary factions and four submitted by civil society organizations. The members of the Supervisory and Development Board shall be appointed by a majority of their component members for a single term of six years.
