Moldovan official meets Secretary General of Council of Europe

Chisinau, 23 November / MOLDPRES /- Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration had a plenary meeting with Secretary General of the Council of Europe Marija Pejčinović Burić. The officials appreciated Moldova's dynamic cooperation with the Council of Europe, the MAEIE press service has reported.
"The Secretary General was assured that all the country's leadership - the president, the parliamentary majority and the government - want the judicial institutions to become functional, independent and to act with integrity and professionalism," the official said.
Popescu thanked the important support that the authorities receive in reforming justice sector through the activity of the High Level Working Group of the Council of Europe, a program established with the support of the Secretary General.
A separate topic of discussion was the human rights situation in the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova and the issue of the operation of the eight schools with Latin script, as well as the mandatory nature of the execution of judgments of the European Court of Human Rights by respondent states.
At the same time, the European official expressed determination to support our country in the process of reforming the state.
