Moldovan PM meets Secretary General of Council of Europe

Chisinau, 23 November / MOLDPRES / - Today, Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița met with Secretary General of the Council of Europe Marija Pejčinović Burić. The officials discussed the current topics on the common agenda and the aspects of cooperation based on the CoE Action Plan for Moldova 2021-2024, launched on April 19 in Strasbourg, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.

Gavrilita appreciated the constructive partnership between our country and the CoE, mentioning that the CoE's expertise is valuable and indispensable in the efforts to promote reforms and strengthen the European option of the Republic of Moldova.

In this context, Natalia Gavrilița referred to the priorities of the government team, especially to reform the judiciary and strengthen state institutions by eradicating corruption, emphasizing that our country counts on the support of the CoE Working Group to assist the justice reform process.

"We have received a mandate of trust from our citizens to achieve an ambitious reform agenda. Zero tolerance for corruption, transparent and efficient institutions, good governance in all areas - these are just some of the objectives we will work to achieve with dedication to change people's lives for the better and ensure respect for their rights, "said the prime minister.

Marija Pejčinović Burić appreciated the actions initiated by the Executive, assuring the new government about the readiness of the Council of Europe to support the implementation of the Action Plan for the Republic of Moldova. However, the collaboration between the Council of Europe and the Republic of Moldova is crucial for ensuring an independent judiciary, the rule of law and the fight against corruption. The parties also exchanged views on issues related to the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict and confidence-building measures between the two banks of the Dniester.
