Foreign affairs ministers of Moldova, Romania sign roadmap on priority sectors of cooperation

Chisinau, 23 November /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova’s Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu and his Romanian counterpart Bogdan Aurescu signed the roadmap on the priority sectors of cooperation in Bucharest today. The act was signed in the president of Moldovan President Maia Sandu and President of Romania Klaus Iohannis.   

The two heads of state reiterated the mutual support, noting that they were dedicated to the consolidation of the bilateral partnership for Moldova’s European integration and advancement of the reform processes.

“Moldova has always felt the shoulder of Romania, which helped us go through crises easier, as well as start edifying a better future. Due to Romania, our country received the first donations of anti-Covid-19 vaccine, which allowed us initiating the process of vaccination as early as in March this year and to save thousands of lives. Also thanks to Romania, in last spring, our farmers received 6,000 tons of diesel, which helped them easier cope with the consequences of the 2020 drought. In this autumn, in full energy crisis, the government of Romania gave us a helping hand, providing us with crude oil to produce electric energy. On behalf of all Moldova’s citizens, I thank you for this significant support,’’ Maia Sandu said.    

The Moldovan president noted that the Romanian investments in Moldova were of special importance, as well as the opening of the Romanian market for our producers. ‘’Romania for many years has been our most important commercial partner. We want this partnership to grow, and we will take care, including through the reforms in justice, to make Moldova a safe and attractive place for investments. Here, I want to convey a message for the investors from Romania: Moldova is changing; our state will become more efficient, more transparent, friendlier for business; so, we expect you to come to Moldova,’’ Sandu added.  

For his part, Klaus Iohannis, specified that Moldova enjoyed an overwhelming, sustainable and trans-party support in Bucharest. ‘’We are everybody dedicated to the strengthening of the bilateral strategic partnership for Moldova’s European integration and advancement of the reform processes. We want Moldova to develop according to the European model, for the benefit of its citizens. Also, Romania will further remain the closest friend of Moldova,’’ Iohannis said.    

The Romanian president also said that the bilateral dialogue had been extremely intense this year, on all dimensions. ‘’The inter-governmental and inter-parliamentary cooperation witnessed a change for the better and the members of the cabinets have already had numerous practical meetings, during which sectoral priorities were discussed. The cooperation continues intensely at present as well,’’ Iohannis added.  

The Romanian head of state informed that the bilateral agenda was quite rich for the next period. ‘’I discussed today with Mrs. President all sectors in which we have joint projects, especially as regards the energy inter-connection and consolidation of the energy security, development of the transport infrastructure, perspectives for continuing providing non-refundable assistance to Moldova through a new agreement dedicated, development of communications and cooperation in the education sector. We also discussed in detail the subject of Moldova’s European agenda, including from the perspective of the forthcoming Eastern Partnership Summit, due in next December. We want the summit to result in a solid commitment to the most ambitious eastern partners, advanced in reforms’ implementation, such as Moldova,’’ Klaus Iohannis added.
