Soroca laboratory to perform PCR tests for first time

Chisinau, 24 November / MOLDPRES /- The laboratory of the Soroca Public Health Center will perform PCR tests for the first time to diagnose SARS-CoV-2.

According to the Ministry of Health, the Laboratory Diagnostic Section of the above-mentioned center was repaired and equipped with the necessary equipment with the support of WHO, USAID, EU and the World Bank.

It was equipped with high-performance laboratory equipment, refrigerators, distillers and autoclaves that will ensure the record and storage of goods - PCR reagents and consumables, in safe laboratory conditions, as well as waste management resulting from laboratory activity to meet the requirements biosafety, both in the laboratory and in the environment.

Soroca laboratory specialists were also trained by WHO experts in PCR and antigen testing. The laboratory will serve the districts of Soroca, Floresti and Drochia.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, WHO has provided technical support in developing the Laboratory Service Development Strategy, delivered tests and consumables, assessed the existing capacity of laboratories in the country and estimated needs based on forecasts, developing and adjusting procedures. laboratory investigation and organization of laboratory quality control programs.
