Moldovan filmmaker, poet commemorated at ASM

Chisinau, 25 November /MOLDPRES/- At the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, filmmaker and poet Emil Loteanu, winner of the State Prize, holder of the Order of the Republic was commemorated 85 years after his birth.
The symposium entitled "Emil Loteanu: a new cinematic galaxy", held with physical and online presence, organized by ASM and the Institute of Cultural Heritage, was attended by academics Mihai Cimpoi and Eugen Doga, writer Vladimir Beșleagă, actor Victor Voinicescu-Soțki.
Academician Mihai Cimpoi said that activating in a period hostile to individual culture and affirmations, Emil Loteanu created films that brought him international recognition in several countries in Europe and Latin America.
He is the author of countless films and short films presented at about 50 festivals and film retrospectives in many cities around the world such as: Buenos Aires, Baltimore, Budapest, Helsinki, Tokyo, London, Montreal, Paris, Rome, Rio de Janeiro, and all the republics of the former USSR.
He was awarded the title of Emeritus Master of Art in the MSSR (1969), People's Artist of the Russian Federation (1980), the title of honorary member of the Nike International Film Academy. He was also awarded the State Prize, the Order of the Republic, and in 2001 - the Prize for excellence in directing art, awarded at the Romanian Athenaeum in Bucharest. He was declared "the best director of the twentieth century in Romanian cinema". Emil Loteanu died on April 18, 2003, in a hospital in Moscow, being buried in the Vagankovo cemetery in the Russian capital.
