Chisinau, 26 November /MOLDPRES/ - The achievements from the agro-industrial complex in 2021, activities undertaken by the government to support the agricultural producers, perspectives of agricultural and rural development, mechanisms of providing subsidies for the next year, identification and updating the priorities in the agricultural sector were the main guide marks presented by Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Viorel Gherciu at a news conference held on the occasion of the professional day of the agriculture branch employees.
The official referred to a string of normative changes regarding the subsidized insurance in agriculture. The completions made by the cabinet are aimed at protecting the farmers’ interests and extending possibilities of insuring the agricultural assets.
„The farmers will be able to insure not only the quantity of the harvest, but also its quality. The completion is important, in the context when sometimes the insured risk does not produce quantitative losses of harvest, but significantly hits its quality, for instance, the look of the production. Also, decision-makers approved a new list of risks and agricultural assets, the insurance premiums of which are subsidized from the National Fund of Development of Agriculture and Rural Environment. At the same time, the ceiling of subsidies for different types of crops was excluded, as well as the compulsoriness to present the certificate from mayoralty on the existence of the insured assets,’’ the minister noted.
Viorel Gherciu also touched upon the micro-, small- and medium-sized farmers, who will be able to easier access sources of the National Fund of Development of Agriculture and Rural Environment.
The document provides for the adjusting of the subsidization policy to the needs of the national economy and the residents, changing the notions of small, medium-sized and big agricultural producers. Also, decision-makers suggest the law’s completion with the notion ‘’micro agricultural producers’’, which has title, possession or use on up to two hectares of farmlands and/or up to one hectare of land occupied with perennial crops or one hectare of vegetables in open field or 0.1 hectares of vegetables in protected field or up to 40 heads of cattle or 50 heads of pigs, sheep/goats and, in any case, does not exceed the criteria established for the micro enterprise through the law on the small and medium-sized enterprises.
„We have great plans to make this sector competitive and efficient. A strong agro-industrial sector means a supplied country and this is the foremost goal of the Agriculture Ministry which will implement policies of backing the sector, supported by the government and development partners,’’ Gherciu said.
The Day of the Employees from Agriculture and Processing Industry is yearly marked in Moldova on each fourth Sunday of November.
