Moldovan president, European Commissioner discuss cooperation with EU in transports sector

Chisinau, 256 November /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today had a meeting with European Commissioner for Transport Adina Valean, the presidential press service has reported.
Among the key subjects tackled, there were the infrastructure projects on the EU-Moldova agenda, strengthening the transport’s connectivity to the European system and the assistance which the country needs to meet the immediate problems faced by the citizens.
The head of state said that Moldova wanted a more ambitious format of cooperation for transports bilaterally, as well as regionally, which is to meet the necessities of the country and complete the national efforts. Our interest is to extend and deepen the cooperation with EU in the field, including as regards the air safety, sea security and sustainable mobility. The discussion was focused on the way an efficient connection of Moldova with the European system can be made, through the creation of strategic transport corridors. In the context, President Maia Sandu highlighted, as priorities, the continuous development and rehabilitation of the network of national roads at the European standards, investments in the energy infrastructure and digitalization.
In the end of the meeting, President Maia Sandu thanked Commissioner Valean for the support provided by EU to consolidate Moldova’s resilience to the current challenges, including in actions of diversifying the sources and routes of supply with energy. Also, the head of state expressed determination for the national authorities to as efficiently as possible turn to account the EU assistance they benefit from.
